Schools & Scholarships Committee
Background
Since August 2002, some HASAN members living in Africa have volunteered to serve as interviewers for prospective students to Harvard College. The information obtained during the face-to-face interview complements the other application materials previously submitted to the Harvard College Admissions Office.
During the 2002-2003 academic year, 15 Africans were admitted to the Harvard College Class of 2007. Of these, 13 have accepted the offer. They are from Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
This academic year, the scope of the program has been broadened from simply interviewing applicants to also conducting informational and recruiting sessions for Harvard College at secondary schools in the African countries where the HASAN volunteers are based. It is now called the HASAN Schools & Scholarships Committee.
